Saturday marked the second meeting between Cal and Northwestern. The last time these teams met was in the 1949 Rose Bowl. Northwestern came out victorious that game and Cal had revenge on their mind for their home opener.
Collin Ellis returned two interceptions for touchdowns to seal the deal for No. 22 Northwestern to spoil Sonny Dykes debut as Cal’s new head coach with a 44 – 30 victory. Ellis returned the first interception for 56 yards in the third quarter to give the Wildcats a 27-24 lead. He then returned his second interception for 40 yards that gave Northwestern a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.
The interceptions, three total, were some of the mistakes made by Jared Goff, who became the first true freshman ever to start the season opener for the Golden Bears. Goff went 38 for 63 for 445 yards and two touchdowns.
The win came at a cost for Northwestern. They lost starting quarterback Kain Colter to a concussion after their second play from scrimmage. A number of other Wildcat players went down with minor injuries. The injuries affected the rhythm of Cal’s offense. Dykes felt that, “Every time we’d make a first down, they had a injury…it was disappointing that I saw that but that’s the way it goes sometimes.”
Trevor Siemian went 18 for 29 for 276 yards and a touchhdown when Colter went out. Treyvon Green ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Cal linebacker Chris McCain was ejected from the game after officials ruled a helmet-to-helmet contact on Siemian. On the following play, Siemian hit Dan Vitale on a 53-yard pass to set up Jeff Budzien’s third field goal of the game to give Northwestern the lead.
On the next drive, Goff’s short pass went of Darius Powe’s hands and right to Ellis who raced in to make it 37-27.
Cal lead early in the third quarter when Goff threw two TD passes to Chris Harper in a 47-second span that included a fumbled kickoff return by Stephen Buckley in between the two touchdowns.
Cal took the opening kickoff and drove 82 yards for a touchdown. The drive ended with a fake field goal attempt. Holder Jackson Bouza flipped the ball back to kicker Vincenzo D’Amato, who passed it back to Bouza fo a 10-yard touchdown.
The rest of the first half didn’t go well for the Bears. Northwestern scored 17 unanswered points behind backup QB Trevor Siemian.
Cal was able to cut the lead to 17-10 at the half when Goff executed a 10-play 84-yard drive that led to a field goal by D’Amato.

Do you know what today is? October 19, 2012. When some networks say 10/19 they don’t mean 10/19. Abed say’s it best, “…where to put 10/19?”
“It’s a feeling within us all” – Abed”
Today was supposed to be the greatest day ever. Not anymore, NBC decided against showing Community today, further postponing it. No love for one of the best shows since Arrested Development. When it comes back, I’ll be waiting. Until then I’ll re-watch the DVD’s.
I have a
tiring long weekend in store. It should be fun and I’m pretty stoked.
I shall take my talents to Berkeley to watch Stanford and Cal for The 115th Big Game. It’s weird to watch a rivalry game so early in the season. With the creation of the Pac-12 Network and scheduling issues, this game got the short end of the stick. Not only is the game early in the season, it’s also start early – Noon. I always felt that rivalry games should be played at night. The issues with TV contracts led this game to start at Noon.
Oakland will be the place to be for about ten hours. The Jags and the Raiders will do battle. This game is winnable for the Raiders, along with the next two. If they handle business, they can be at 4-4 at the midway point. That is asking for a lot, so I have my hopes on very low.
Congratulations to the Cardinals for being one win away from the World Series! The Giants lose this series because they left about twenty men on base in Game 3.
The past two nights have been nothing but throwback music at the second job.
Here’s something for your ears…and eyes.

I took a break from the blog. It has been a busy two weeks and I had to sacrifice something. I’m back though, better than ever. I must warn you that I won’t be back until Wednesday. When I come back I shall break down what has been going on. It will include: drinking in SF, football in Berkeley and hanging out in Sacramento. Each one was pretty amazing.
After I post, I will be GONE. I will be out-of-town, it’s been a while since I was able to just get away. I thought to myself, what would be perfect for this. This legend came to mind.
Had to keep it clean for the kids.

Time to switch things up. Yesterday I went emotional (I’m sorry) and I promise it won’t happen again (or will it?).
Let’s begin shall we? Has a random question ever popped in your head? Literally, the first thing in the morning? If you said no, you’re lying.
This was the question that popped in my head this morning…
*40 Sec mark is your goal, but watch the whole thing*
Weird, I know. It’s true though, I haven’t heard from Ja Rule in a long time.
!*!* IT’S THE WEEKEND *!*!*
Who is doing what this weekend? I haven’t checked the weather, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be nice here in the 916. A trip to the Bay Area might be in the works. If you have been reading my posts, you are probably assuming Berkeley or San Francisco. HA!, WRONG, fooled you. Santa Cruz might be in order if everything goes according to plan.
Plans, PLANS and PLANS! Everything in life needs a Plan and a “Plan B’. In this case, I really hope my “Plan B” gets action. I don’t mind trips to the Ocean, but I DO mind paying for gas. Gas is becoming a hassle again. I swear it was $2.50 yesterday…Yeah, I wish we were back in the good ol’ days for that reason alone.
OK, sorry, mind was wandering – PLAN B!
Is the suspense killing you? Ok, it’s nothing major (except for fans). Wait for it…. And it is….
Yup, a Community marathon. Season Three came out earlier this week! I still find it sad that people don’t have love for Community. Unfortunately, smart shows rarely get love.
Changing subjects before I rant, yet again.
Breakdown so far:
Clip of the week: Dave Chappelle
Show of the week: Community
Food of the week: Old-School, Oreo’s
Song of the day………
Andre 3000, always doing his thing. Very talented person, he is going to playing Jimi Hendrix in a biopic. I still don’t know all the details in regards of the movie. I didn’t forget about B.o.B, he is still doing his thing – under the radar.

Enjoy the weekend my fellow humans!
